Any Given Sunday

As I sit here on this lovely Sunday evening over that the Chicken Koop, I can't help but be a bit excited about "Night Moves". Another FL tasty treat to pass out to all of the kiddies. Songs like "One Shot" and "Legionnaire Lounge" have me excited as hell. I can't wait until the album is done and we can just get back on the road. Speaking of being on the road, looks like we going to be out in December, supporting the "Bomb Hip Hop Compilation Volume 2". This compiliation is chock full of great west coast hip hop including: V.E.R.A. Clique, Celsius 7, Dirty Nasty, Grip Grand & The Shotgun Wedding Quintet. The album just hit the stores on October 21st so go out and get it. Check the Bomb Hip Hop site for download options. Big up to Dave Paul for putting together another hot cd.

Stayin' On That Grind

You know, I remember back when I thought that all you really had to do, to make it, was be a dope emcee.   Now, more than 15 years later, I think I've finally realized that being dope just ain't enough. You've got to be smart, determined, tenacious, blind and a lil dumb (that doesn't hurt). Hell... you don't even have to be dope anymore. Or maybe the definition of "dope" eludes me, in my old age.

I realize that things are different now.... the music... the industy... the definition of what we do.... but cot dammit.... dope is dope... no matter how you slice it!!  I mean, fuck... you can put a cat in the oven but that don't make it a biscuit yaknawImean?  I suppose that I may have just progressed to being the old and bitter guy at the show... but I feel neither old nor bitter.  I just feel like maybe somebody forgot to lock the door on the "good Hip-Hop cellar" when the "bullshit music tornado" blew through and now I have to fight for a tour slot with guys that have never seen any stage time, outside of youtube.

This brings us to our current dilemma.  Why the hell is it so hard to book shows right now?  I've been caling and emailing and myspacing and eStalking muafuckas for over a month.  The only thing that I have to show for it is a quick dialing finger and a new appreciation for booking agents.  I mean, these people deal with some of the most unprofessional people on the planet, day in and day out. They work in an industry where it's standard practice to tell somebody you'll call them and then they duck into a foxhole like the red coats are coming, when they see your name on caller i.d.  What part of the game is that?

I guess I'm just feeling a little bit frustrated because F.L. has ALWAYS put on a top-notch show. People around the world beg us to come back.  I can fly to Australia and get recognized on the street but back home, I can't get half ot the promoters to commit to a date, much less a decent wage.  This booking shit is way more difficult than one would think (unnecessarily so, if you ask me).  Props to those that do this for a living. But damn, could somebody cut your boys some friggin slack and help us out.  Send any contacts or communications to booking@hungerstrikerecords.com and we'll come through and fuck up your town. Guaranteed!!!

On a side note, we're closer to finishing the LP, Night Moves, and people are responding well to The Secret Knock EP.

The Best Laid Plans...

So... for those of you that don't know, 'Night Moves' has been pushed back to Feb '09. I know... I know... it's a tough pill to swallow. We didn't want to do it but we felt like it was necessary if we wanted to release a quality product with the infrastructure to support it. Yeah... I said 'infrastructure'. I'm edumacated, dammit.

We're going to take the time to continue recording and polishing up the gems we already have. Plus, now there will be time to film videos and what-not. It sucks to have to wait but we really feel like it'll be worth it and we hope you do too.

On another note, we're still booking dates so if you know somebody that's booking GOOD hip-hop shows, direct them to booking@hungerstrikerecords.com.

A Little Help From Our Friends

As the curtain closes on the recording portion of the new FL album, Night Moves, we're adding in a bit of special seasoning. A sprinkle of handsome, a dash of bastard and heaping teaspoon of O'Liffey, we present to you the fabulous, Filthy Rich!

He'll be appearing on a track entitled "State of Emurgency" with Marc Stretch, produced by G-Koop. This is just another perfect pairing for the album. Following collaborations with Prozack Turner and Stretch (seperately), Turner and I decided to bring Rich in to add some flavor to the new album.

For those that don't know, this kid is a monster and proves it on the regular by performing all through Ireland and Europe with DJ Flip as the Filth Bags. Check the video links below.

Thanks for your help,

Set It Off Correct Like

Since this is my first post, I figure I should start it the way all good artists/marketers start things... with something free.

Here's a the beginning of something beautiful. We'll start with some videos from this past tour and I'll even GIVE you the album that the tour supported. And they say nothing good happens on Tuesdays anymore.

Take the music, and run.
